Skilled Leadership
Sustainability with a Purpose
I am running for the open director seat in the Northern District because I believe Holy Cross Energy is on the right track in shifting to cheaper renewable energy sources and investing the savings into infrastructure resiliency and keeping customer bills low. I recently retired after a 23-year career at Eagle River Water and Sanitation District (ERWSD), the last 11 years as General Manager. I saw firsthand how climate trends threaten our watersheds with wildfire, and deplete our local rivers, reducing the community’s water supply and the streamflows that support our environment.
ERWSD is one of the largest energy users in the Holy Cross service area; following my recommendation ERWSD participates in renewable energy offsets for 100% of its electricity use. Under my leadership, we shifted the vehicle fleet towards electric; captured waste heat from a wastewater treatment plant to heat Avon Town Hall and the pools at the Avon Recreation Center; and piloted the Peak-Time Payback Program at our Edwards wastewater plant, saving on total energy use and retiming energy demand to reduce costs for all Holy Cross customers.
In water utility management, I found that water and power issues related to climate change often intersect, leading to potential innovations in both sectors. I want to join the Holy Cross team to continue helping members and local governments meet their climate action goals, ensure rates are equitable as patterns of energy distribution and use adapt, and include the voices of the diverse Holy Cross membership in decision making.
